Mission Statement
This Association is a charitable and educational association that promotes quality programs, and facilitates professional growth of its members through best educational practices.
1. Effectively communicating opportunities and resources in Virginia regarding health, physical education, recreation and dance to facilitate professional growth. Actions that will meet the intent of this goal include:
- Provide resources for individuals within the profession to teach in the ever-changing landscape of education.
- Sharing best educational practice opportunities and resources for professionals across all communication platforms regarding health, physical education, recreation and dance.
- Continually submitting and updating VAHPERD website, social media platforms, etc. to reflect up to date information.
2. Facilitate meaningful member services to increase profession involvement of the membership in VAHPERD. Actions that will meet the intent of this goal include:
- Support and promote best-practice training opportunities designed to implement the Virginia health and physical education standards of learning.
- Create opportunities for professionals to network throughout the year and during annual convention.
- Provide and promote opportunities for future professionals to learn, advocate and have practical workplace experiences.
- Continue to encourage and support student leadership and involvement in the association.
3. Actively advocate for the health and wellness in society as a whole. Actions that will meet the intent of this goal include:
- Support potential state and national legislation that impacts the health and wellness of all.
- Professionally demonstrating and sharing the advocacy action plan to spread our mission throughout local communities and state.
- Seek input from our stakeholders about a name change that can make us more relevant and aligns with our national association.
- Be more active with our lobbyist to help engage our members on how to communicate with our government officials. Set up documents that are templates that members can easily modify to get a consistent message across to their local, regional, state, and national law makers.
4. Intentionally aligning with individuals and groups that share our mission to positively impact our profession. Actions that will meet the intent of this goal include:
- Activelycreating partnerships and sponsorships with others in Virginia that will positively impact society’s health and wellness as a whole.
- Seek and demonstrate revenue producing activity to increase member services opportunities, resources and benefits.
- Look to our national organization to align with national platforms and become part of a larger voice.
